Old McDonald Gets New Look, IKE-ey, IKEA….

THERE SEEMS TO BE A new Mayor McCheese in town! The McDonald’s that lived on 3rd Avnue between 84th & 85th Street recently was closed for what I thought would be forever.

Turns out, it was just getting a makeover, one of many such Mickey D’s that would revamp their look, and make themselves amenable to the patrons of the 21st century, offering wider table spaces and added long benches, all of this retuning for the betterment of the customer, giving them more reason to stay in-store longer, hopeful buying more of their menu items—if just coffee—while they work and/or idle away on their laptops.

This is the ideology that still keeps chains like Starbucks, although struggling in spots, abuzz with a modicum of all-day foot traffic.

The daughter of a friend of mine, who happened to be upstairs at this particular location, posited that the store was redesigned by Ikea (although my pics, following, translate the space as more Kubrickian). Astute observation indeed, for such a young lady, as the few people who knew that the spot had reopened and were in attendance, so to speak, seem to feel just as at home as they did before, if not moreso.

The question, to me, is: Do I really want to be treating my kids to Happy Meals while the guy next to me with the sweaty cup of strawberry milkshake is perusing Chatroulette?!
